Ten days ago, George and I FINALLY moved into our new home. We closed over a month ago, but the people we bought the house from were having issues closing on their new home... they were so sweet, and gave us such a gift by allowing us to purchase their home, I didn't have the heart to force them out. Besides the incredibly awkward feeling of being a high school student sneaking around someones parents house while they're away on vacation, it's been pretty amazing.
Ever since I was a tiny little kid I would go shopping with my mother and her friends dreaming of the day when I would grow up and finally have my own home to buy things for and decorate. I envied them as they picked up little soaps and side tables, describing the perfect place in their guest bathroom they had to display them (The contemporary feminist in me cringes when I think about all the traditional female roles I innately look forward to). Anyway, now that I have actually arrived at that time in my life, I don't think it has actually hit me.
I finally have a place to put all the mid-century furniture and weird lamps and nick knacks I have been collecting throughout my life leading up to this moment. Behold: The first completed room (minus the curtains that I have yet to obtain... Ignore those horrible tan valences).

LOVE that "smile" pillow (My mother and I had a bit of a pillow overdose at HomeGoods). The coffee table is a mid-century dutch piece I have been hoarding for years. It never fit in any of my apartments so this is its debut. It used to be a beautiful teak wood, but my Grandmother committed a minor sin and painted it black in the 1970s. |
I think I'm a pretty snazzy decorator, but I'm sure my more traditional Aunt and Uncle would beg to differ. My apologies for being so behind on updating you all and writing blog posts... but as you can see, I had a legitimate reason! Here's to being an adult. A real adult. With a house. And way too much to clean.
xoxo
